The Southwest Region of the United States is one of five important U.S. regions. In using this web page students will be exposed and know more about its land, resources, history, and people.
The fourth graders in my classroom will become familiar with selected aspects of the four states in this region: Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arizona. Some of the knowledge about this region include:
• Landforms such as the Grand Canyon
• Climates of the Southwest
• Contributions of oil and technology to U.S. economy
• The Navajo nation and its contributions
• Use of primary and secondary sources of information regarding this region’s history
• The history and influence of (100) the Spanish community in this region
• The history and role of ranches and cattle drives in the Southwest
After completing the tasks from this web page, students will be able to appreciate
this area of the United States and recognize its contributions.
